As cigars will respond to their environment the storage of the cigars are essential. In order for a cigar to equalize its own moisture content with the moisture of the atmosphere around it, it will absorb or dry out. In a moist environment the cigar will soak up the moisture. There is a term, ‘hygroscopic’, which means that a cigar will dry out if it’s left in a dry environment for a long period of time.

The cigar humidor was created to purposely store cigars. This keeps your cigars safe and keeps them in good smoking condition.

Cigar humidors come in varying sizes and styles and depending on the quality of the workmanship the price will vary. There is a wide selection of humidors that are capable of holding hundreds of cigars, split up with dividers so you can properly organise your collection.

The humidor is also used in order for cigars to be stored in a controlled surrounding. It maintains the cigars at 12-14% of total weight in moisture while keeping stable and peak relative humidity levels.

The amount of moisture in the environment compared with the saturation is what is known as relative humidity. Relative humidity is separate from temperature, and because of this, relative humidity of 70% does not depend on the temperature.

A humidor should not be affected by the colour, shape, size or style. It is designed to do its job of storing cigars and fit the taste and style of its owner.

The cost of a good humidor can be costly but ultimately worthwhile. The starting price of the humidors in our range is £50 and the most expensive is £650, but buy spending this money on a good humidor will allow you to control it efficiently and frees from the problems a poor humidor can cause.

If you are in an area where the climate maintains the relative humidity of near 70% probably won’t need a humidor compared to people living in changing climates, as the temperature will affect the way you store your cigars.
Points to consider when buying a humidor

  1. A high quality, mahogany humidor is generally viewed as the ideal kind of humidor although not essential.
  2. Spanish cedar lining is ideal. Spanish cedar lining provides absorbency, helping the humidor to stay regulated at 60-70% humidity. Other cedars do not qualify, as they will alter the taste of cigars.
  3. Ensure that the humidor has a thickness of at least 5/8 inch.
  4. Ensure that the humidor has a tight seal.
  5. The humidor should be solid and heavy to avoid warping.

It is important to regulate your humidor properly in order to store your cigars and keep them maintained.
