Travelling with cigars

Remember to look after their cigars when you are away on holiday or away on business. Many people take the cigars from their humidor and simply throw them in a suitcase or briefcase, which is subject to all kinds of pressures and temperatures, particularly whilst travelling abroad.

To help keep your cigars in perfect smoking condition when travelling, we’ve come up with these easy guidelines and we are sure that if you follow them then you will keep your cigars in pristine condition.

The thought of sitting at home with your favourite wine and a fine Havana cigar from your collection is soothing indeed, but what if you want to relax in the same manner when you’re travelling? It is really very simple to take your collection with you when you’re away from home.

It is essential that you take the proper equipment to store your cigars when you are away from home. For example, a cigar case or a humidor bag will be suitable to keep your cigars safe when you’re away for a few days, but when you’re on the road for more than a week then you will want to use a rehumidified humidor to keep your collection safe and hydrated.

Choosing Your Cigars for your Travels

Now that you’ve chosen your storage device it’s now time to decide what cigars you are going to take with you from your collection. We recommend you take the cigars that have been stored in your humidor for a long time, as they will be at the perfect humidity for travelling. We don’t recommend that you take more cigars than you plan to smoke. For example we don’t advise you take 25 cigars to a business dinner if you only plan to smoke 1 before and 1 after the meal.

You’re now ready to pack your chosen cigars into your chosen storage device. Ensure that your chosen cigars have been placed within a proper humidor. However if you’ve just purchased your cigars from a tobacco shop we recommend that you do not open them and just place them straight into the travel case immediately.

Once you are finished with your cigar it is essential that you shut the tube, case, etc. By doing this you will be preserving the humidity and the life of your cigar. We also don’t recommend you place your cigar case in direct sunlight or in severe heat. Carry the case with you at all times, for example don’t place it in the storage of a plane, instead keep it on your person.
