The Spaniard Don Francisco Fonseca first registered the Fonseca trademark in 1907. Early in the 20th century, the Fonseca Cuban cigar was manufactured in several different Havana cigar factories but is now only produced in Quivicán, a quaint small town in the province of Havana.
Medium in body, this refined, cabinet-brand Havana cigar debuted in 1962 and was re-introduced in its current blend in 1991. Fonseca Cuban cigars are blended from the choicest tobaccos grown in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic.
Fonseca cigars are the only cigars that are wrapped in extremely delicate, almost transparent paper. It is thought that this wrapping helps the cigar maintain an optimal humidity level. The wrapper also protects the Fonseca cigar from becoming damaged.
Fonseca cigars are light to medium bodied and offer some nice darker and spicy tones with maybe a touch of creaminess.
